      SOURCE NOTES FOR JOHN, JR. STOVALL: From " Gone to Georgia" Jackson and Gwinnett Counties and their Neighbors in the Western Migration, by William C. Stewart., page 183 1047

      The largest number of descendants in Georgia are from the six sons of John Stovall, Sr. of Granville Co., NC son of Bartholomew, Sr., who left a 1781 will there. His children included: 1. Bartholomew, died 1803 in Orange Co., NC whose son George M ( 1768-1847) lived in Franklin Co. GA from about 1820 to 1835, when he moved to Cass County, GA; 2. Josiah ( 1749-1798 ) in Wilkes County by 1785, settled in Lincoln County; seven of his 10 sons moved about 1811 to Mississippi and Alabama; 3. George ( 1750-1820) settled about 1796 in Elbert County, GA moved in 1808 to Franklin County, GA, and between 1815 and 1820 to Franklin Co., TN. One of his sons Josiah ( 1774-1849) remained in Franklin County, GA; 4.
      Drury (1752-1826 ) moved from Granville to Wilkes County, GA, about 1788, buying land on Clark's Creek March 21 that year; he was enumerated in Wilkes County in 1820 and at about that time all his sons moved to Morgan County, AL; 5. Benjamin ( 1755-1828), settled in what became Oglethorpe County by 1785, when he was listed in Capt. Elsberry's district of Wilkes County; his children John Stovall and Tabitha Adams of Jackson County are mentioned above; another son, Samuel (1777-1848) moved to Morgan Co, GA where he was enumerated in 1820; a third son, Batholomew (1781-1850) lived in Crawford County, GA, and a fourth son, Stephen (1778-1844) settled in Lincoln Co, GA where he married ( 1st) Mary ( Stovall) Ratlif, daughter of Josiah Stovall; 6. John Jr., sixth son of John , Sr. remained in Granville Co., NC; but his two sons George ( 1765-1833) and David ( 1780-1835 ) moved to Georgia; George settling in Franklin County and David in Newton County. Stovall's enumerated 1820 in Georgia not mentioned above, were Bartholmew, in addition to Benjamin, in Oglethorpe County; Benjamin and Lewis in Lincoln County, TN; Thomas in Wilkes County; Polly and S.B. in Greene County. In 1827, Geoge, a Revolutionary Soldier, residing in Franklin County, drew
      Muscogee County land granted March 26, 1828.
