    • SOURCE NOTES:

      Pemberton Hall was built by Isaac Handy and his wife Anne ( Dashiell ) in 1741 on what is now Pemberton Park. The home and plantation was one of the first established in Wicomico County, Salisbury, Maryland. He died on the 12 November 1762 at about 56 years of age in Somerset County,
      Maryland.

      RELIGIOUS AFFILIATION: Protestant
      SOCIAL STATUS: Gentleman, 1734
      OCCUPATION: A Mariner in 1726, his father left him and his brother Stephen, one half interest in the sloop " Samuel and Mary " with the provision that they would recieve the other half if their brother THOMAS died without issue. A merchant in 1741, involved in the shipping business with the sloop
      " GEORGE".
      PUBLIC CAREER: Legislative service, Lower House, Somerset County. 1747-1748 ( elected to the 3rd session to fill vacancy ), 1749-1751.
      LOCAL OFFICES: Justice, Court of Oyer and Terminer and Gaol delivery, Someset County. Commissioned to Military service 1750 and 1753.
      MILITARY SERVICE:
      Captain by 1744
      Colonel by 1755.
      WEALTH DURING LIFETIME:
      Land at First Election. At least 1,392 acres in Somerset County ( all through purchase ).
      He gave 350 acres to his son George in 1751 and obtained 311 acres between 1752 and 1759; sold 303 acres by 1759. all acreage was in Somerset County.
